This piece was created for an extremely talented artist, Charlene Geiger, whose use of a multitude of antique trims, florals, shoes, figures, books, etc. to create amazing and beautiful works of art!
The Tramp Art version of a Moravian Star is designed so that it can be hung or rest upon a tabletop. The star/box opens up to reveal several German antique Christmas elements.....a composition Christ child with a Dresden halo, a woven metal basket with silk ribbon bows, two different styles of stick-leg sheep, a miniature book "The Story of Christmas", a Victorian embossed scrap and a Dresden & Tinsel Star ornament. The top and bottom of the box are covered with hand-dyed velvet panels and the edge has an antique woven metal trim wrapping around the opening.
The interior has been painted with egg tempura and washes of antique silver and gold. The exterior has been stained and then washes of metallic silver and gold have been applied.
A total of 346 hand cut pieces of wood were used to make this piece. A total of 336 pieces were chip carved by hand with a total of 8,448 chips carved to create this one-of-a-kind piece of art.
